From Passion to Purpose: How I Built Nest Glasgow to Support Mums Like Me

Before I became a mum, I had a clear sense of who I was. I was passionate about yoga, movement, and mindfulness, and I loved helping others feel strong and connected to their bodies. My work gave me purpose, and I imagined that when I had children, I’d just slot motherhood into my life, finding a way to balance it all.
But when I had my first baby, everything changed.
Motherhood cracked me open in a way I never expected. Suddenly, my own needs felt secondary. My time was no longer my own. And the support I had assumed would be there? It felt distant, fragmented, and—at times—completely absent.
I quickly realised that modern motherhood is isolating.
So many of us are raising children without the “village” our mothers and grandmothers relied on. Family members live further apart, friends are juggling their own busy lives, and the world expects us to just cope.
I was exhausted. I missed feeling like me. And I kept wondering—where was the space for mums to be nurtured, supported, and held?
That’s when the idea for Nest Glasgow was born.
Seeing the Gap: Why Mums Need More Than Just Baby Classes
As a yoga teacher and antenatal educator, I had spent years supporting women through pregnancy and birth. But what I noticed was this:
💬 There was plenty of support for pregnancy. Antenatal classes, birth preparation, midwife check-ins.
💬 There were endless activities for babies. Sensory classes, playgroups, music sessions.
💬 But what about the mums?
Where was the space that prioritised her healing, her well-being, and her transition into this life-changing role?
I knew there had to be something more than just baby classes that mums attended out of duty.
I wanted to create a space where mothers weren’t just included—but truly centred.
A space where they could:
✅ Move their bodies without worrying about finding childcare.
✅ Connect with other mums in a real, meaningful way.
✅ Feel seen, supported, and valued—not just as parents, but as people.
And so, in the middle of my own postpartum recovery, I began planning something that I needed myself—a place where mums could come exactly as they were and breathe again.
The Journey to Building Nest Glasgow
Starting Nest wasn’t easy. I was juggling a baby, battling exhaustion, and trying to create something from scratch with the tiny pockets of time I had in between feeds and naps.
But I was determined.
I spoke to other mums and asked them what they needed. I saw the same patterns over and over:
💬 “I just want a space where I can take my baby AND feel like myself again.”
💬 “I love my baby, but I miss adult conversations.”
💬 “I want to move my body without feeling like I have to ‘bounce back’ or ‘fix’ myself.”
I knew I was onto something.
So, I started small—offering mum-friendly yoga classes, hosting parent meet-ups, and slowly building a community. The response was overwhelming. Mums were craving this kind of space.
How Nest is Changing the Motherhood Experience
Nest is more than just a studio—it’s a home for mums. It’s a place where you can:
🧡 Move your body in a way that feels good, not punishing.
🧡 Sit and chat with other mums without feeling rushed or judged.
🧡 Take a breath, step away from the chaos, and feel held.
One of the things I love most? Seeing friendships form naturally. Mums who meet in class start texting each other, making plans outside of class, and becoming each other’s village.
Because that’s the heart of this space.
Rebuilding the village we were never meant to do without.
Lessons I’ve Learned on This Journey
Building Nest has been one of the hardest, most rewarding things I’ve ever done. And along the way, I’ve learned some powerful lessons:
💡 You don’t have to do it alone. I thought I had to figure it all out myself, but the truth is, motherhood (and business) thrives on support.
💡 It’s okay to change. The person I was before motherhood isn’t the person I am now—and that’s not a loss, it’s growth.
💡 Self-care isn’t selfish. Taking time to move, rest, and connect isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. When we fill our own cups, we show up better for our children, our work, and ourselves.
💡 Community is everything. We were never meant to do this alone. And when we surround ourselves with people who get it, everything feels lighter.
