You’re Not the Only One Googling ‘Is This Normal?’

A note to first-time mums who feel a bit lost (you’re in good company).

When I had my first baby, I didn’t realise how much time I’d spend Googling. Not just the big things, but the tiniest, strangest, most specific questions imaginable.

Like:

“Why is my baby grunting in their sleep?”

“Is green poo normal?”

“Can babies forget who you are?”

“Is it okay if I don’t feel instantly in love?”

“Can you survive on this little sleep?”

I’d scroll at 3am, phone brightness on the lowest setting, trying to piece together a sense of certainty from forums and articles written by strangers. Hoping one of them would say, “Yes. You’re okay. This is normal.”

I Was Looking for Permission

What I really wanted was to feel like I wasn’t doing it wrong. To be told that the crying, the cluster feeding, the complete disorientation of early motherhood—  That it was all part of the process. That I wasn’t failing. I was just new.

And that my baby wasn’t broken. Just a baby.

What Helped Most Wasn’t Google

It was another mum in a baby class saying, “Oh, mine does that too.” It was the teacher who said, “Yep, totally normal. And also hard. You’re doing great.” It was the quiet nod across the room that said, Me too.

That’s what we forget when we’re deep in the scroll: What we need most isn’t more answers—it’s less isolation.

That’s Why Nest Exists

I created Nest so that no mother would feel she had to figure it all out alone. It’s a space where you can say something that feels ridiculous. Where someone else has probably Googled it too. Where you can exhale, laugh, cry, and find real-life reassurance—not from a search bar, but from people who get it.

You could try:

Mummas Space – weekly drop-ins to rest, be seen, and connect with others who get it

Play Café – a low-pressure space to chat, feed, and sip a hot drink while your little one plays

Baby Massage – gentle bonding and soothing tools, with space to talk things through

And every class, circle, or session is led by teachers and spaceholders who have walked this path too. They come with warmth, wisdom, and lived experience of motherhood—not just training.

You don’t have to know everything. You don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to show up.

Come join us at Nest for classes, connection, and comfort through the chaos. You’ll be in good company. 💛
